Whitewright Weekend Draws Largest Postwar Cotton Era Crowd
Whitewright residents crowded the sidewalks Saturday and Sunday night recalling boom days as visitors poured in from surrounding areas to pick the cotton crop. Merchants reported the best weekend in years with stores packed until late and stocks running short. Farmers noted above average yields for cotton, corn, wheat, and oats, with prices fair for grain. The feature film slate at the Palace Theater included They Gave Him A Gun starring Spencer Tracy and Gladys George followed by Guns And Guitars with Gene Autry.
