Miss Chaney born 1918 at Ida died Sunday at her home in Achilee Oklahoma. She is survived by her parents Mr. and Mrs. J W Chaney and a sister Mrs H W Penny and a brother J W Chaney. Funeral held in Durant Oklahoma Tuesday attended by Mr and Mrs L J Penny Ardell Penny Mrs Jack Baldwin and Janet Ashinhurst of Sherman.
Sherman report shows only 6 870 poll taxes paid in Grayson County by Monday. Tax officer Robert Dean estimates total payments will near 10 000 before the January 31 deadline. He cites a state wide decline due to the tax assessment method and notes property tax receipts are steady.

Funeral services were held at the Savoy Methodist Church for Corporal Bob Coleman 19 of Whitewright born November 19 1930. He died from burns in a forest fire at Camp Carson Colorado after serving in Korea and Japan. Burial followed at Sun Nyside Cemetery with Everheart Thornhill Post American Legion firing squad from Perrin Air Force Base assisting. Survivors include his mother Mrs E B Pritchett a twin sister Helen Faye Coleman a half sister Betty Ann Pritchett a half brother Paul Lee Pritchett and stepfather E B Pritchett of Whitewright and several step siblings.
Gov. Allan Shivers calls the first Texas special session since 1941 to raise funds for operates state hospitals for the insane and mentally defective and the special schools. The plan targets a 20 million dollar annual operating need and at least 5 million a year until 40 million is raised for building. He will limit the session to hospital and school funding and building.
The Agriculture Department reports Texas topped all states in farm marketings from January through November 1949, with California second and Iowa third. Nationwide cash receipts for 1949 fell about 10 percent from 1948, though Texas led the field thanks to a record cotton crop as hog prices weakened in Iowa.

State breakdown shows Texas leading with 5,754,043 bales, followed by Arkansas 1,584,825 and Louisiana 632,993. New Mexico 253,410 and Oklahoma 571,520 also listed.
Attorney General J. Howard McGrath urged life imprisonment for incurable sex criminals to protect women and children. In a Gannett radio interview he said medical authorities deem some offenders incurable and called for screening and certification before any release, criticizing parole and probation for such offenders.
