Swamp Fox and the Southern Campaign in 1780s History
The British shift to the south in 1778 met stubborn American resistance led by Francis Marion the Swamp Fox. His raids and prisoner exchanges strained British lines, with colonels Sumter and Pickens amplifying costs. Cornwallis abandoned the southern strategy in 1781, retreating to Virginia before Yorktown. An old leap year saying closes the piece.
