Paramount picks George Hight's Linda theatre in Whitewright for Cecil B. DeMille's The Ten Commandments from March 5 to 15. Whitewright proclaims itself the smallest Texas town to book the famous picture.
Miss Theda Low, a sophomore history government major from Whitewright, was elected floor chairman of Bastrop Hall at Texas Woman's University. She serves on the House Council and heads social activities for the dormitories. Theda Low is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Hollis L Low of Whitewright.
Washington reports a 2.3 percent drop in U S farms in 1957 to 4 855 800, 17 percent below 1947 levels. State totals show Oklahoma 118 000 down from 122 000 and Texas 297 000 vs 304 000. Ecuador notes top two volcanoes Chimborazo 20 700 feet and Cotopaxi 19 550 feet.

Miss German born July 17 1875 was a private music teacher and artist living in Whitewright and Greenville recently. Surviving relatives named include a brother and four sisters.
Malcolm Vincent Ford died at 76 at his Pink Hill home near Bells. He operated the Pink Hill Grocery for 50 years and was married to Nellie B. Brown since 1912. Funeral services were held at Barnheart Chapel Whitewright with burial at Pink Hill Cemetery. He leaves two daughters and two grandsons.
Pvt. H. C. Carpenter, 22, husband of Laura Bess of Whitewright Texas, is starting eight weeks of basic combat training with the 9th Infantry Division at Fort Carson Colorado. He is a Dallas native and a 1955 Whitewright High School graduate who worked for the Missouri Kansas and Texas Railroad.
Dr Bailey T Tally retires from Albemarle North Carolina leaving a gift by canceling all unpaid bills estimated at 750000 dollars. The generous act creates substantial relief for patients and local creditors as one of the town’s long serving physicians leaves with a notable gesture.
Sherman attorney R. C. Slagle Jr. was elected chairman of the county wide highway committee to succeed the late Jerome McKinney. W. E. The Agriculture Department says the future farm population hinges on income from agriculture or combined with off farm work. As of April 1, 1957, about 20.4 million people lived on farms, or 12 percent of the U S population. 25 years earlier farm residents were 32.4 million, 25.8 percent.
The FCC will postpone pay television trial runs for at least 30 days after Congress adjourns following a request from the House interstate commerce committee. The committee plans further hearings this summer while licenses for toll television were set to begin March 1 on a three year trial.
