The Sun and Tren ton Tribune faced production delays after a rebuilt Linotype caused downtime. Publisher Tom Holmes worked with a Sherman Linotype machinist to restore type setting, delaying this week’s issue.
As of Wednesday morning no candidates had filed for places on the ballot in the City election to be held April 6 according to city secretary Harold Doss. Filing deadline is March 6. Two city commissioners are to be elected and the terms of Jack Meador and Charlie Ayres expire on April 6. neither has filed for reelection.
The Friday Literary Club gathered at Mrs. Jack Meador’s home with Mrs. James Bryant presiding. Delegates to the State Federation of Women’s Clubs convention in Palestine were elected, and National Education Week events were announced. Miss Gladys Ray and Mrs. Kenneth Frisby spoke on American history and patriotism, stressing its importance and threats from apathy. Mrs. Meador served cake and coffee to 20 members.
Mrs J P Layman longtime Whitewright resident died February 17 in Waxahachie. Funeral services were held there and she was buried in Celina Cemetery. She had moved to Waxahachie ten years ago and was the daughter of Ed Claborn. Survivors include a daughter Cordell Pearson of Waxahachie, two brothers Charlie Claborn of Oklahoma City and Van Claborn of Nashville, four sisters Mrs W R Skaggs of Russellville Tennessee Mrs Truett Holloway of Howe Mrs Virgil Murphy of Whitewright and Mrs W R Warren of Stockton California four grandchildren and three great grandchildren She was sister in law of Dr F D Layman of Sherman.

The U ya o da ko Camp Fire girls gathered last Thursday afternoon. Minutes were read by the secretary before a penny hike. Refreshments were served to the girls by their leader Mrs. Joe Crouch.
