Citizens in Whitewright notice a new taste as fluorine is introduced into the city water. Health officials cite evidence that fluoridated water reduces tooth decay, noting early tests and recommendations from government chemists.
Washington officials ordered price ceilings on used cars and barred new car sales above manufacturers' suggested prices. The rule links used car ceilings to guide-book values and requires dealer book registration with OPS.
Pfc Kendrick Lee Cavil, 15, left Korea and headed home to Des Moines Iowa after being discharged by the Army for his youth. He complained about leaving his buddies, vowing to return when old enough and to wait at the recruiting office.
Records from the City Water Department show Whitewright had 2.98 inches of rain in January and February the current year with 1.06 inches in January and 1.92 in February up to the Wednesday night. The period’s totals include small amounts on February 5 and 13 to 15 and 17 and the night of February 19. This compares with 9.39 inches for the same period last year.
Funeral services for Don Ray Teague 49 were held at North Park Baptist Church Sherman at 2 30 p m Tuesday conducted by Rev Claud Johnston. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery Sherman. He died in a Sherman hospital Sunday after a three week illness. He was born near Whitewright August 22 1901. Survivors include his wife Maggie Yowell Teague and five sisters and five brothers. Thelma Jean Teague of Dallas is a daughter and his mother survives. He was married to Vita Lucas in Great Bend Kansas. He belonged to Tom Bean Baptist Church.
Mrs. J. B. May 72 died Saturday after a two year illness at her Savoy home. Funeral at Savoy Church of Christ Monday at 3:30 p m with burial in Sunny Side Cemetery directed by Earnheart Funeral Service. Surviving are her husband, a sister in Miami Florida a stepdaughter in Whitewright and three step grandchildren.
The drys won 21 of 32 local option elections on liquor beer or wine in Texas in 1950. Howard and Bowie Counties stayed dry while Andrews Bowie Hays Lubbock Marion Real and Scurry went dry. Vets carried Crane Montgomery and Trinity. Statewide consumption totaled 7 358 110 gallons of distilled spirits 116 584 220 gallons of beer and state revenue from liquor wine and beer exceeded 17 million dollars with net after expenses of 16 308 819 71 up 3 433 094 39 from 1949.
In Quincy Illinois Ralph Volm recounts a counterfeit $3.50 check that travelled from a Macon Missouri grocer to a Macon bank. It passed through a Quincy clearinghouse and the St Louis Federal Reserve before the Macon bank flagged it as "No Such Account." The signer identified as A. R. Swindled. Texas Capitol Building height noted as 308 feet 4 inches to star atop statue.
Whitewright Tigers defeated Howe High 39-20 to win the District 27-B title at Hughey Memorial Gym on the Austin College campus. The Tigers, led by Jimmy Christian with 10 points, advance to regional play in Dallas Friday.

Washington moves to consolidate county offices of Soil Conservation Service Production and Marketing Administration and Forest Service so farmers can handle all soil and water conservation duties in one county office. Fragment mentions Texas Houston Morning Star started in 1839.
At a PTA meeting held March 6 plans were finalized for a basketball game between PTA members and the Order of the Eastern Star. The game will occur March 16 in the High School Gym, with a cake walk during halftime and confectionery sales by the Eastern Star to benefit school programs.
Dr. J. R. Maxfield Jr., renowned radiologist, will address the layman's day observance at eleven Sunday, February 25. A Baylor alumnus and UC Medical School veteran, his Dallas clinic ranks among 300 in the nation for radioactive material use. He serves as consultant for Los Angeles labs and VA radiology.
The Agriculture Department announced an base price support of at least 29.68 cents a pound for middling seven-eights inch 1951 crop cotton with higher rates for better grades. Farmers were already receiving about 42 cents in mid January as market values rose due to last year’s small crop. The department asks for at least 60 percent more production and aims to assure growers 90 percent of the August parity price.

The National Production Authority announced a 20 percent steel cut beginning April 1 for passenger cars and household goods to free 1,000,000 tons for defense. A possible 30 percent cut may follow July 1, with auto output constrained to 80 percent of prior quarter use and manufacturers urged to shift to smaller, cheaper models.
Washington plans call for releasing about 233800 National Guardsmen and reservists after current federal duty. Maj. Gen. Maxwell Taylor said regular Army divisions will form the backbone and only six guard divisions will be called unless mobilization is needed. 118000 guardsmen are on duty with 26000 reservists and 90000 individual reserves in service.
A Lackland Air Base trainee asked his mother to send money for a Korea ticket. The chaplain informed investigators for the Senate preparedness subcommittee, citing the incident as an example of service members misrepresenting status to gain sympathy.
Manor Baking Company of Dallas wins a temporary injunction from District Judge R C Slagle Jr restraining Whitewright from enforcing a four month old peddler ordinance. The suit challenges a $30 annual license fee plus $10 per employee and a $1000 bond for prepayment sales. Hearing scheduled for next Saturday.
The library uses 50 volume classroom collections across grades one through six with a central reference area. New books totaling 44 were distributed by reading level, and 68 volumes align with a state reading list. PTA provided 75 dollars for book purchases. Miss Mardell Pumphrey leads the library with two sixth grade assistants Laura Bess Rich and Betty Lumpkins.
