Grayson County Commissioners Court approved flood water retention dams on Pilot Grove and Sister Grove creeks southwest of Whitewright after the U. S. Soil Conservation Service final contract omitted a maintenance clause. County Judge Jim Dickson and Commissioner Wayne Bruce provided the information.

City Election Ordered For Whitewright April 3

Mayor Russell Summers orders a city election for Whitewright on April 3 to elect a mayor. Rolla C. Vestal is appointed election judge. Candidate filing ends 30 days before election at the city secretary office. Summers also announces his candidacy to seek another term after 12 years in office.

Bavarian Wife Burns Local Brewery Over Drinking

A 33-year-old Bavarian housewife reportedly set fire to a local brewery after claiming her husband could not drink if the brewery burned. Police quoted her saying this after arrest. Damages were estimated at 62 500 dollars with no injuries reported. Her name was withheld pending investigation.

Medical Aid Bill Stalled in House

Kennedy backed plan ties medical aid for people 65 and older to Social Security but is stalled in Congress.
