Bruno Hauptmann was found guilty of murder in the first degree for the Lindbergh baby kidnapping. He faced execution in the week of March 18 after an eleven hour, six minute jury deliberation in Flemington New Jersey.
Maj. E. A. Wood of the Texas Planning Board said the Texas public works inventory will exceed 250 million dollars. Forms were mailed to about 1,500 subdivisions, but only around 900 submitted lists. many returns require data updates and completion within two weeks. Submissions moved to Washington for the national inventory, aiding a potential 4.88 billion federal program if enacted.
Treasury figures show Texans paid about 18 million dollars more in internal revenue taxes in 1934 than 1933. Major increases occurred in corporation income taxes and agricultural adjustment taxes, with Texas ranking fifteenth in total income taxes paid nationwide.
Drunken cows and sheep staged a regular drunken party Sunday on a farm six miles southwest of Fort Worth. Alcohol tax agents found a large whisky still, the biggest captured in years. D G Coffman, agent in charge, said the incident occurred Monday morning as the animals appeared intoxicated and ate part of 7,000 gallons of mash poured out by agents.

R A Jones 59 a Rose Hill farmer died Friday afternoon at his home while carrying a load of wood. Survived by wife Ellie and two sons F H Jones and E E Jones. Member of Baptist Church of Rose Hill.
Miss Emma Cowart 76 daughter of the late Jonathan and Frances Cowart died Sunday at 4 p m at her sister Mrs M J Long home in Whitewright. Funeral services were held Monday at 3 p m at the residence with Rev G C Ivins and Rev J R Waldrum officiating. Interment was in Pilot Grove Cemetery. Survived by three brothers Charles Cowart Silverton John H Cowart Plainview Tom Cowart Tucson and a sister Mrs M J Long. A tribute from a friend described her life of service and faith and spoke of an eternal rest beyond.
Whitewright Mayor F. M. Echols says the town fully cooperated in the federal relief program. Relief labor has improved schools streets under RFC CWA and public properties with 5 000 truck loads of rock and 1 500 yards of gravel used across about 90 blocks and new signs installed. Four paintings found for disposal had potential values of 800 to 1000 dollars each.
Horace Fletcher Thompson 76 died Monday morning after an apoplectic stroke. The funeral was at 2:30 p m Tuesday at the Baptist Church with Rev G C Ivins and Dr B Wrenn Webb officiating. Interment was in City Cemetery. Surviving are his wife Minnie Barry and four children Claude, Mrs Grover Spencer, Clyde, and Clarence. A son Clifford was killed in France in WWI. Thompson had long operated businesses in Whitewright and was a well known local figure.
Dr. Robert Lee Sears 66 a longtime Whitewright physician died at home Monday after a five day illness pneumonia began Wednesday. Survived by family many relatives arrived before death. Funeral 3:30 Tuesday at Presbyterian Church with ministers J F Fender and B Wrenn Webb. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers listed. Born September 25 18[?]8 to Henry C and Belle Hil Sears Grayson County pioneers.
Whitewright recorded 1.53 inches of rainfall through 8 a.m. Wednesday with 1.09 inches total for the week. January brought 4.09 inches, giving 5.62 inches for the year to date, as soil remains damp only to three feet while farmers seek more moisture for a full crop. Rains covered the state but the South Plains area saw the least moisture.
The state highway engineers will bid on grading bridge and drainage for the incomplete highway 160 route from Bells to Denison. A Grayson County soil conservation camp is planned with eight units and about 250 CCC workers to move in around April 1 from Bowie County. Farmers may join at $2 to $5 per acre for terraces with government labor and materials. terraces must be 20 feet wide at base and 18 inches high. Community leaders from Denison attended a Monday conference seeking contract releases.

J Brack Rains, 63, longtime secretary of the Indian Territory Building and Loan Association of Durant and former Grayson County tax assessor, drowned when his car veered off a bank into a lake four miles east of Durant Tuesday afternoon.
Funeral services set for Friday for Dr. Frank T. Lautenschlager 34 dentist of the Medical and Surgical Clinic who died at a local hospital Tuesday night. The Rev Joseph G O Donohoe pastor of St Marys Catholic Church will officiate.
He earned his MD from the University of Louisville in 1891 and practiced in Grayson County. He served as M K T Railroad physician and was city health officer at death. Survived by wife Frances Aston and four children Morrell Sears Jim Sears Mrs. M B Bryant Mrs. Jack Mitchell, three sisters, a brother and seven grandchildren.
John H. Richey 83 died Monday after a short illness. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church with Dr. B Wrenn Webb and Dr. J F Fender officiating. Interment was in City Cemetery. Survived by a daughter, Mrs. John Henry of Whitewright, and a brother J D Richey of Orangeville.
The commissioners court approved Sheriff J. Benton Davis request to raise feeding pay to 50 cents per day per prisoner, up from 40 cents. Tie votes split among commissioners with County Judge Loy casting the deciding vote in favor. Six county road projects were announced by H. M. Scott and Gribble, with 120 workers to start Friday on roads from Collinsville to Cooke County and other routes.
Government economists estimate 1935 AAA benefit payments for five crops total 422 million dollars with potential to reach 500 million. Since May 12 1933 the AAA has issued over 10 million checks totaling 629.6 million.
Albany N Y New York State slaughtered 159 923 cattle in 1934 to purge dairy herds of bovine tuberculosis. The drive reduced the cow population to 2 049 000, 41 000 fewer than a dozen years earlier. Since 1917 about 883 880 tuberculosis cattle have been slain, with roughly 2 000 000 cows tested.

Joe B. Pittman aged 22, a CCC camp member in Bonham, died Tuesday morning at a local hospital from pneumonia. He is the camp's second pneumonia death, with three other youths hospitalized. Pittman’s mother Mrs. M. C. Pittman of Mount Vernon had stayed at his bedside in recent days.
Washington figures show NRA estimates that code authorities impose costs on business totaling about 41.4 million dollars per year.
