Mrs. W. H. Phillips will celebrate her 90th birthday on February 14, Valentine’s Day. Born February 14, 1868 near Oakland Kentucky, she moved to Texas in 1887 with her parents and married W. H. Phillips in 1889. They settled on a farm west of Whitewright. six children were born, now two survive: Miss Viva Phillips and Mrs. Buddy Stephens.

Smith son of Mrs. L Head Whitewright Texas completed a 12 week electronic instrument repair course February 7 at the Army Southeastern Signal School Fort Gordon Georgia He entered the Army last August and finished basic training at Fort Ord California The 1957 Whitewright High School graduate is 18 years old.

The 1958 cotton price support set at 30.75 cents per pound rises 1.94 from 1957, below many unofficial projections. Ezra Taft Benson bases the rate on supply, with 11.85 million bales forecast for 1958 and domestic use near eight million, exports down to about 4.7 million.

The Texas Supreme Court cleared payment of 2.4 million dollars to claimants against U S Trust and Guaranty Company. Over 9,000 claims totaling 7.3 million dollars were filed, with 6 million from investment certificate purchasers. Douglas and others sought priority for those buyers. 15 days remain to file a rehearing. Checks will be mailed once the ruling becomes final within about a month.
