Fifteen Children Escape Serious Injury In Truck Crash
A group of fifteen boys and girls returning from a basketball game near Westminster, south of Van Alstyne, Texas, narrowly avoided death when their truck tipped on a sharp curve. Two girls suffered the worst injuries including a broken collar bone and two broken ribs with facial and head bruises. others had minor injuries. Passing motorists moved the truck to free occupants.

J L Medearis Pioneer Settler Dies At 1844 Birth
J L Medearis died last Friday at the home of Mr and Mrs W J Martin southeast of town. He settled here in late 1877 and was born in Clay County North Carolina on April 12 1844. A Confederate veteran he joined the Methodist Church and led Marvin church Sunday school for nearly twenty years. He belonged to the Masonic and Odd Fellows orders and was among the lodge’s oldest members since 1889. Funeral at Oak Hill Cemetery conducted by Rev J F Fender with Masonic rites. Survived by his wife and children Mrs W L White Mrs F A Page Mrs C A Henry Homer Medearis W J Martin C L and R L Medearis.

No Limit on Mexican Immigration in New Bill
Washington Feb 4. The new immigration bill would not restrict Mexican entry. About 50 000 Mexican subjects are expected annually. Rep Box of Texas originated the unlimited entry clause and backed by Secretary of Labor Davis. Officials fear unskilled Mexican labor will surge after passage. The bill sets quotas at 10 percent of each nationality from the 1890 census, reducing Southern European labor. Box supports the quota law.
