In SAN PEDRO California Johnny Bumanglag works as a fish smeller guiding the harbor cannerys supply. He tests each fish by scent pulling a stomach section and either passes it to cooking or condemns it as spoiled. Bumanglag handles 24 fish a minute for about 16 hours daily sniffing 35 to 50 tons. He endures neck pains from constant air intake and battles frequent sniffles and colds in this hazardous trade.
