The 17 year old Gillis Williams died from injuries after a head on collision near the Canaan store. He had been living with Mr and Mrs Brown near Orangeville and was en route to Denison when the crash occurred. His sister and mother, visiting from Denison, attended the funeral at Oak Hill Cemetery where Rev W A Kirkpatrick conducted a brief service.
