Kissing Ball Tradition In Holiday Homes
The Kissing Ball remains a popular secular celebration decoration once common in homes. Historically it appeared as a pomander, brown egg, or cotton ball, with plastic foam now the favored material. Bright paint or gilding, ribbons, mock jewels, and mistletoe sprig decorate its top while passing under the arch may prompt a kiss from a nearby swain.
