Private Jimmy W Brown joins 1st Cavalry Division in Korea

First National Bank Increases Surplus Account

Kenneth Frisby president of the First National Bank of Whitewright announced the bank increased its surplus fund from 50000 to 100000 effective January 2, 1961. The transfer came from the reserve for contingencies and undivided profits. The bank notes past reductions in 1938 and cites Whitewright’s housing boom and new industry as factors behind larger loan limits to support farmers and growth.

Groceries Outpace Drugstores in Retail Shift

A congressional study finds grocery supermarkets gaining on drugstores as they sell more health and beauty aids and non food items. The House Small Business committee notes 43 percent of dentifrices 41 percent of baby powder and 37 percent of razor blades come from food stores, with about 90 percent of supermarkets selling such products. Drug items account for roughly 44 percent of non food items in grocery chains.
