J A Mauk was a visitor in Trenton Monday and many friends report improvements and visits across Sherman, Dallas, Bonham, and Denison. Dan Vestal preached at Orangeville and others attended cotton parades, lodge meetings, and county funerals while noting illnesses and recoveries among townsfolk.
Assisted by Mrs T E Barbee and Mrs R L Sears the group held a business session led by Mrs Robert Sears who presided. Devotional by Mrs Mark Montgomery. Program chair Mrs Fred Cook presented Our Home Work and Our Foreign Work with readings and solos by Betty Nell Yeager Janis Jayne Horton Margaret Hanna Betty Margaret Sears and Billy Rhom Pennington. Tea and social hour followed at the manse hosted by Mrs Webb.
At a faculty and ministers conference last week a chapel schedule was arranged for the High School. Services will be held each Wednesday from 8:45 to 9:15 with ministers assigned on specific dates: Dec 20 Rev E P Wootten, Jan 3 Rev Ben Bell, Jan 10 Rev Leonard Mullens, and Jan 17 Rev Leroy Anderson. Dr B Wrenn Webb conducted chapel yesterday.
First Baptist Church Sunday school officers and teachers attended a monthly conference then gathered in the basement for a banquet hosted by Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Simmons in appreciation of their support. A long table seated about 40 with ample food marked a warm community event in Whitewright.
The Presbyterian Missionary Society met Monday in the church parlors for a business and program session. Mrs. B. Wrenn Webb hosted the day and gave the Spiritual Life lesson.
The Asa Walker 4 H Club met on Tuesday December 5 with Collin County demonstrator Miss Helen Dunlap. Dunlap guided the girls on their club work record books and shared ideas for a cotton Christmas gifts. She urged each girl to keep a personal record of her club contributions as attendance was high.
Homer Rountree and his parents Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Rountree entertained a number of friends Friday evening at their Lordsburg New Mexico home. Guests included Betty Margaret Sears Henrietta Jackson Betty Lee Jones Margaret Hanna Mary Frances Stephens Billy Ben Bell James Stateville Ben Robert Jones David Lee Johnson and Bobby Jim Morgan.
Miss Ouida Nell Harris entertained a group of friends with a linen shower Tuesday honoring Mrs. Vernon Guierhart of Clovis New Mexico formerly Frances Windle of Whitewright. Miss Harris was assisted by Miss Velma Joe Reeves. Guests included Mrs. Joe Reeves Mrs. J H Gosnell Mrs. O G Bow Mrs E Bow Mrs Wayne Stephens Mrs Dale Clower Mrs Howard Hedgpeth Mrs L Windle Miss Louise Autrey Mrs Floyd Harris and Miss Thelma Joe Reeves.
Dr. B Wrenn Webb pastor of the First Presbyterian Church was guest speaker at the Rotary Club luncheon. John Reeves presented the speaker as Webb discussed Cause and Effect using world war and current European conflict to illustrate his theme. Daniel Russ led group singing. district governor scheduled official visit next Friday.
The Methodist Missionary Society held its Harvest Day program at Mrs. C. B. Bryant Jr. home. Lunch followed, reports from committees outlined a busy year, officers were installed by Rev. Ben Bell, and treasurer records showed over 300 dollars spent on the parsonage with all pledges paid.
The North Circle of the Baptist Missionary Society met Monday at Mrs. R. S. Morehead's home with 16 members present. Mrs. Olive Myrick chaired the session and led the business meeting, followed by a Bible lesson conducted by Mrs. W. E. Pennell.
Mrs. Sarah Kilgree hosted the Whitewright Music Club at her parents home for a Friday study titled Women Composers. Members and guests, including Mrs. Floyd Bassett Mrs. J. C. McMillin Miss Frances Williams and Mrs. Kilgree, contributed modern women composers during roll call. An University of Minnesota anthropologist notes blondes are slowly disappearing in the U.S.
