Cotton Referendum Set For Saturday Across Cotton States
Farmers in cotton producing states vote Saturday on 1943 marketings quotas. In Whiteswright the election is at City Hall with judges Arthur Badgett Henry Phillips and Elmo Wallace. Other polling sites include Pilot Grove Ida Tom Bean Bells and Cannon. Badgett says 1943 changes cut basic payments and raise payments for soil building practices. Under the new plan a terraced farm can receive 80 cents per hundred feet.

Rail Unions Seek 30 Percent Pay Increase for 350000 Members
Chiefs of five operating railroad unions vote for a 30 percent raise or a minimum $3 daily increase for about 350000 workers. The move follows nonoperating unions demanding 20 cents an hour for 900000 rail line staff, heightening railroad payroll pressures nationwide. Alvanley Johnston cites long hours, rising living costs, worker shortages, and pay inequality as reasons.

AUSTIN. Class III-A registrants aged 18 to 37 may still volunteer through local boards for volunteer officer candidate training. The War Department bars enlistment for those 38 and older except for those already ordered to report. Three-A registrants in the 18 to 37 age group may try for commissions in antiaircraft artillery, coast artillery, cavalry, chemical warfare, engineer, infantry, field artillery, ordnance, signal, military police, tank destroyer and armored force.

Child Killed in Accident Near Whitewright
Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church for Charles Ray Burchfield four who died when a shotgun in his seven year old brother's hands discharged at his grandparents home six miles northeast of Whitewright. The boy died instantly and the brother sustained facial cuts from the gun’s recoil. Survivors include his parents a brother and a sister and grandparents.

Area yields 210 000 tires in surplus purchase drive
Dallas district motorists turned in 210000 tires through the surplus tire purchase program by November 28, part of a nationwide total of eight million tires. Half the Dallas tires were worthless and to be scrapped, the rest sold to dealers after repairs under tire rationing. Whitewright area filed 479 tires by November 30, a higher rate than Dallas overall.
