A Texas Traction substation south of Sherman burned about 5:45 AM, with an estimated loss near 35000 dollars. The brick building housed a 33000 volt high tension line, which felled to the ground after a wire broke from its moorings in recent high winds. Night operator J H Young tried to sever the live lines with a pistol, managing to disconnect four of six wires before running out of cartridges. He notified others, and power was cut. A Denison sub-station was sent and by 10 AM traffic resumed. the building was destroyed and covered by insurance.

Lawson Smith Dies From Gunshot Wounds
Sherman, Nov. 26 Lawson Smith died from gunshot wounds sustained after he and J. B. Green, brothers in law, argued over family troubles. Smith fired on Green at Green’s home with an automatic pistol, Green retreated, then shot Smith with a shotgun. Green was arrested by Sheriff Simmons and Deputy DeSpain and jailed. Green waived preliminary hearing and was granted $500 bond.

Meters to Be Installed on City Water April First 1916

Rural School Aid Draws 700 Applications in Texas
More than seven hundred applications for state aid under the $1,000,000 rural school law were received by the State Board of Education at its Austin meeting. The bill earmarks $500,000 for the year ending August 31, 1916, and another $500,000 for the year ending August 31, 1917, to promote rural public school interests and improve facilities for agricultural communities.
