West Texas town of Lubbock celebrates the selection as the site for a new 1,000,000 college by hosting visitors from across the region. A day of parades, speeches, and a high capacity barbecue fed more than 30,000 attendees in a mass outdoor meal.
Prohibition agents from 116 counties in the Northern district converge on Dallas for a general crackdown on liquor law violators. Texas rangers will cooperate under district head E. A. Turner. Fort Worth and Corsicana work has been quiet with several days of activity and many complaints and arrests anticipated.
Floyd A Miller aged 19 died from a self inflicted bullet wound at his parents home four miles north of town around 6 AM Saturday. The tragedy, linked to a recent reprimand and lingering despondency, occurred after he sought a key to cartridges. Funeral at Kentuckytown Baptist Church followed by interment at Wittitoe Cemetery. Survived by parents and five siblings. Also a separate ad notes machine shop move and Singer sewing machines with repair work offered by M H Collinsworth.
By Wednesday close the local gins had ginned 1350 bales this season with yard receipts higher due to lint cotton prices here. Lint sold 23.40 to 23.50 per pound and seed cotton brought 8.50 per hundred pounds. A year ago Wrightwood reported about 400 bales and lint at 22.50 while seed cotton was 7.80.

Prominent Glen Rose business and professional men appear as sureties for thirty-one men arrested in an extensive Somervell County liquor raid. Bonds set at 500 for possession, 750 for possession and sale, with county officials Roark and Davis posting 1500 each for conspiracy charges. Hearings scheduled next week for most defendants before U.S. Commissioner McCormick.
Columbus Ohio Aug 28 A prison confession from cellmate Fred W Mills led to a possible release for Thomas O'Brien 26 of Milledgeville Michigan who is serving 22 months for robbing an Elmore garage. Mills claims he alone committed the robbery and seeks O'Brien's release. The Board of Pardons and Paroles and warden P E Thomas review the case.
The Daily Oklahoman of Oklahoma City shows Joe Tate, son of Dave Tate, in a prominent photo. Tate, a key Oklahoma City baseball player, has drawn praise for his improving record, leading his team in hitting with a batting average around .300 over the past three weeks.

The body of Frank Kauffman 54 was found in a cotton warehouse at the Farmers Union Gin after a Wednesday disappearance. Initial findings suggest accidental death by suffocation as rescuers removed seed cotton and searched through the pile. an inquest was pending a verdict. He is survived by his wife and nine children with burial planned at Oak Hill Cemetery.
A slow steady rain began at midnight and continued into morning, benefiting crops and promising a fair cotton crop. It is the first meaningful rain since about June 1, covering Abilene and surrounding area from Pecos to Ranger and beyond to Ballinger.
