Defense Week Highlights Rail and Production Push
Government extends selective service with 150000 National Guardsmen, 20000 selectees, and 10000 reserve officers to be released by Dec 10. Roosevelt announces air routes to West Africa and the Middle East, lend-lease limits with Russia, and a 16 member medical mission to China building the Burma road rail line. Defense progress outpaces estimates though production and bottlenecks persist with tanks, guns, mortars, and anti aircraft deliveries rising. OPM and price controls target auto cuts and unemployment fears in defense shift.
