The doctor treats emergencies locally, though high costs threaten fee increases and receivables mount to about $40,000 in five years.
Senator Albert Gore proposes Senate elections subcommittee review of public opinion polls' impact on elections. He cites polls misled by sample size and name recognition, noting past failures predicting Dewey Truman and Kefauver in Tennessee. He argues polls can unduly affect election outcomes and asks for inquiry.
Whitewright High School Tigers scored seven touchdowns while limiting Ladonia to one in the Tuesday scrimmage. He asks police chiefs sheriffs and the highway patrol to intensify enforcement from Sept 3 to Sept 5. Col. Homer Garrison Jr. says all available troopers will patrol state highways during the period.
AUSTIN district judges may excus e citizens from grand jury service using their discretion. Atty. Gen. Will Wilson held that exemptions are personal privileges to be claimed or waived, and that exempt individuals are not automatically disqualified. The opinion, drawn up for County Atty. Jimmy Morris, notes that service may be excused if reasons appeal to the court's sound discretion.
The Whitewright Public Schools announce a faculty meeting on September 1 at 9:00 a.m. in the high school. Enrollment for students occurs September 2 with 11 a.m. dismissal after enrollment and regular bus service. Classes begin September 6 after Labor Day.
A 24 year old Westminster man was fined 225 dollars plus costs by Justice of the Peace Ed Martin for drunkenness and disturbing the peace after a Saturday night disturbance four weeks earlier. He remains jailed facing assault charges against Constable Burn Everheart and Night Officer W M Gates after knocking out Officer Gates before restraint.
In a letter to the editor, Uncle Dan of Tom Bean criticizes a economist's view of government by the people and argues farmers face uncertain odds from nature and market manipulation. He cites budget figures, urges cutting foreign aid and farm supports, and vows to contact lawmakers. He ends with a sharp: the foreign aid party is not thanked.
