Oscar Mears from the Mrs. D. B. Tate farm near Whitewright brought in the first bale of 1937 cotton Monday night weighing 485 pounds. It was ginned by Donigan Gin Company, sold for 11 1/2 cents a pound, and earned a $22 premium from local merchants. The second bale arrived Wednesday from A. L. Lane on the W. T. Sears farm, ginned by Planters Gin Company, with free storage.

Bells-Denison Paving Contract Award Is Made
Russ Mitchell of Houston submitted the low bid of 197 332 dollars to lay concrete on highway 160 from Denison to Bells a 12.1 mile stretch. Denison plans to pave Crockett avenue first to have the new artery ready before winter. The project will employ about 78 workers for six months including 40 unskilled laborers 20 truck drivers and 18 specialized workers. Concrete will run from Crawford subway of the Southern Pacific to Crockett then south toward Bells.

Tractor wheel runs over Joe Alexander at home south of town
Joe Alexander about 21 was taken to a Sherman hospital for examination after a tractor wheel passed over his stomach while he lay under the machine changing plow gear. His mother, assisting, drove forward to connect the plow and the wheel slipped, pinning him but causing non serious injuries he returned home next day. His father died in an automobile crash on July 20.
