Flight Lieutenant Joe Thomas May son of Mr and Mrs R H May arrived home from India where he served as a fighter pilot with the Royal Air Force Eagle Squadron and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and India General Service Medal for actions against the Japanese. He had earlier left the RAF to join the American Air Force but failed the Army physical in India and returned home to seek another path back into air service.
