Child Drowns in Abandoned Hill County Well
Six year old Thomas Britton of Mertens fell into a neglected water well on a vacant lot and drowned Sunday. His body was recovered after about two hours, with county attorney noting a stumble on the curbing as the likely cause. The well, three feet wide with only a brick high curb, lay near his home as other children collected flowers.
