Sherman reports Grayson County farmers must reduce acreage from 154 674 to 142 471 and lint yield from 25 000 000 to 22 000 000 pounds on a five year average. Reductions must be made before contracts go to the state for final approval.
The 90000 originally for the Gunter road Highway 116 will be moved to the Denison Bells highway fund. Local pleas win support for Highway 160. additional grading and drainage work on the Denison Bells inlet five miles toward Bells has been let, completing drainage and grading on all 12 miles of Highway 160.
F M Law of Houston, president of the American Bankers Association, told East Texas bankers and merchants that Texas is the brightest spot in the country and far along the road to recovery. He praised banks as stronger and more liquid than in 50 years and cited policies like Bankhead cotton reduction, industrial credit banks, Home Owners Loan Corp banks, and a deposit guaranty law as aids to lasting stability.
Speaker Rainey said Roosevelt would not approve the Frazier Lemke bill to refinance farm mortgages. Supporters are gathering signatures to force the bill from committee. The plan would issue government securities at 1 percent principal and a modest interest rate. The petition aims to reach the required 145 signatures. 130 obtained so far.
Mrs Hazel Hess, about 50, shot her husband Louis N. Hess, 55, while he sat at breakfast with his mother Mrs M A Hess in Boise Idaho. Police said the act followed an accusation that Hess rifled her pockets. The mother-in-law had recently moved in with the family.
The Baptist Methodist and Presbyterian churches in Whitewright launch a cooperative revival starting Sunday June 17 for two weeks. Dr B Wrenn Webb and Rev W C Dennis will preach while Rev G C Ivins leads songs at the Baptist Church. A steering committee of three pastors and three lay members organized and there will be no outside help with home talent.
Tax collector R B Caraway clarified the delinquent tax payment plan as of July 1 1934 under the old law with a 10 percent penalty and six percent annual interest from delinquency plus delinquent costs. Taxpayers may pay by June 30 to gain former two percent penalty and six percent by June 30 1934.
Agricultural Adjustment Administration officials say the dairy production adjustment plan will not cause a milk famine. The plan spends 5 million dollars to provide milk for underfed children and to transfer cows to needy families, aiming to increase overall milk use and stabilize prices.
Texas rose to second in U S mineral production in 1932 with a value around 289.96 million dollars, 17.1 percent of all output. California followed, while Pennsylvania dropped due to shifts to gas and petroleum as fuel. Texas led in petroleum sulfur and natural gas production, driving the ranking change.
Final USDA estimates place Texas farm and livestock value at 564,663,000 for 1933, up 146,651,000 from 1932. Production total reaches 564,663,000 versus 418,012,000 in 1932 and 519,210,000 in 1931, with Iowa and California trailing Texas by substantial margins.
The Whitewright Rotary Club becomes the first in Texas to subscribe for sustaining membership in the Texas Society for Crippled Children with a $25 fee. Will H. Evans of Sherman spoke on the society’s work and plans. The drive aims to raise funds to treat 20,000 crippled children whose families cannot pay. The society was funded by a $10,000 Texas Legislature appropriation and a seal sale is planned. Rhom Pennington heads a nominating committee to fill officer posts.
Miss Mildred Ward of Wolfe Bayou Arkansas found a lead pencil in a stolen car and compared it with a fountain pen from the same set. Officials accepted the match and returned the car to her. Suspects in the theft were jailed.
The Federal relief administration said it would recognize Marie Dresden of Madison Wisconsin to succeed Adam Johnson as Texas relief director. The administration asserted the Texas Relief Commission acted within its authority in discharging Johnson. A separate note reports Dan Moody and R L Batts retained to represent R L Holliday of El Paso in a bid to regain his seat on the State Relief Commission with possible court action in Travis County.
The Grayson County Young Democrats aim to grow to 1000 members and study crime costs to taxpayers. A committee including Forrest Peveto and Grady Hodges will examine taxpayer impacts and methods to catch violators, while the group backs arming officers with modern weapons as endorsed by county officials.
Wholesale prices declined in the week ended March 31 driven by foods and textiles, while farm products remained firm. The BLS index stood at 73.4 percent of 1926 levels, down only 0.5 percent in March, with farm prices at 6.4 percent of 1926 levels. Grains fell to year’s low, while live stock climbed to the highest 1934 level to date.
The National Automobile Chamber of Commerce reports March production at 262,156 units, the highest for any month since Sept 1929. Output is 208 percent above March 1933 and 49 percent above February 1934, with first quarter totaling 539,128 units and payrolls rising to their highest since 1929.

The congregation will join Central Christian for welcome services and evangelistic meetings. The note mentions Irish Americans making up 11 percent of the white population.

Central Christian Church invites all members and families to attend Sunday services at 9:45 for Bible school 11 for worship on The Significance of the Lord's Supper and 7:30 for evening service. Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to a 3 pm meeting led by Mrs. G C Minor.
Friday April 20 the Whitewright Music Club presents Julian Paul Blitz Belgian violin cellist and Kidd-Key Conservatory teacher with Mrs Blitz pianist and their eleven year old son Edward. Blitz has performed across Europe and with major U S orchestras including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The club promises popular prices and a rare public opportunity.
W L Stowers and C J Meador elected to Whitewright school board in a three year term. Eighty four votes cast the largest in years. Meador filling an unexpired term. Stowers new to public office and cashier at the Katy, a long time resident. Ernest Harrison re elected in District 42 with all votes. Holdover trustees W J Martin and Ode Hefner also serve.
The Palace theatre under Brannon and Padgitt opened with the new release Bottoms Up. Audiences praised the improved sound system and clear speech, noting the ability to understand every word. The venue also redecorated, installing a false ceiling for acoustics and relocating the box office to the lobby center.
There were twenty one commercial failures in Texas during March compared with thirty two in February and the same number in March last year, a decline of 34 percent in each case. For the first three months there were seventy nine failures, down from 187, a drop of 58 percent, per the University of Texas bureau of business research.
In March the Federal Surplus Relief Corporation distributed 1 529 359 bushels of grain 132 300 boxes of oranges 99 214 600 pounds of other foods 779 792 blankets and 518 264 tons of coal to destitute unemployed families, expanding wartime social support.
