Growing Tomatoes Pruning For Single Stem Stakes
The best method for growing tomatoes after transplanting is to prune to a single stem or two stems and tie to stakes or trellises. Plants are spaced two feet apart, with stakes four to five feet long. Trellises can be laths or wires between small posts. Prune by pinching side shoots at leaf joints and tie plants loosely with twine or cloth strips beneath a leaf node.
