Whitewright voters face mayoral decision in Saturday election

The Saturday Whitewright election pits Lloyd Kassett against Otto Krumm for mayor while six other offices, including three council seats and two school board spots, are on the ballot. Veterans say the mayor must manage Master Plans, federal and state projects, utilities, and a 600-person tax base, with Russell Summers retiring after 20 years. Summers urged continued leadership, noting the dangers of a write in. The piece ends with a light aside about a new bodyguard named Big John and a poster-sized photo of a mule.
