The society, formed September 1518, covers several townships and reports $107.76 on hand. Over a thousand dollars in stolen horses have been recovered since its founding.
A Lake in Wright county Iowa known as Walled Lake is a vast plain form with a man built stone wall around it. The wall ranges from two to ten feet high with boulders from three tons to fifty pounds and is two miles long. The lake is clear cold and deep in places and supports excellent fishing. The land around the lake belongs to the government and the wall may be ancient though not natural. Some rocks were likely moved from nearby areas and there is a timber strip along part of the enclosure.
