State Temperance Society Formed in Wisconsin
Madison March 37 1258 at the Methodist Church the State Temperance Society was formed with Judge 3. G. Knanp chairing and B. Blute of Beloit as secretary. A constitution was adopted naming officers, a board of directors, and a pledge for abstinence. The assemblage elected officers including D. W. Brown president and created an executive committee with numerous regional appointees. The afternoon session authorized publishing the proceedings and adopted resolutions urging organization, temperance tract circulation, lectures, and enforcement of temperance laws.
