Fiendish mob lashes defenseless woman in Mentor
A mob of about thirty men tied Mrs Harmon to a post near her home in Mentor and whipped her bare body with fifty lashes. They then warned another local woman, Mrs Freeman, to leave within 24 hours or face the same fate. Jacob Sapenfeld was sent to untie Harmon and report the crime, which left the victim badly wounded. The assailants’ identities and origins are unknown. The incident recalls a prior whipping of Harmon and her daughter in Bird's Eye two years earlier.
