Reports detail a prolonged battle between Cripple Creek miners and deputy sheriffs. Casualties include killed deputies and miners. prisoners were taken and later released. Governor Waite contemplates martial law as violence spreads, with railways and towns on edge and shipments of arms moving to the strike area.
Miners clashed as women disarmed eleven minors and seven deputies at the Independence mine in Cripple Creek. Union men expelled by strikers were guarded by deputies. two killed and several wounded in a convoy attack near Florence and Cripple Creek railroad. Deputies' actions and vigil over the mine sparked fresh legal actions in Denver.
In Clarksburg W V on May 26 S L Haster was found guilty of performing an abortion on Miss Columbia Coffman who died in January. Judge Hagans sentenced Haster to eight years in prison. Barter faces murder indictments. A full history of the case appeared in the Regieren report. Local shooting incident follows at Opra Honte with a man named Porter shot in the forehead.
The Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers elected M. M. Garland as President and J. C. Kilgallen as Secretary in Cleveland Ohio on May 26. Steven Madon was named Assistant Secretary with a slate of trustees and vice presidents spanning Pittsburgh Wheeling Youngstown and other districts. The conference committees were announced with Garland Kilgallen ex-officio chairing all divisions. The next meeting was set for Poland on May 15 1895 and the scale will be promulgated next Saturday in Pittsburgh.
At Criminal Court Judge Jackson ruled that a dying declaration by Miss Amias in a controversial criminal operation case against Dr F C Dennison could not be admitted. The jury found Dennison not guilty as prosecutors could not prove the charge, and he was discharged amid family objections and ongoing press interest.
May 26 report from Strubenville describes Craig stabbing his sister Lizzie during a dispute at Ninth Street home. Surgeons say she will die. Other items note Ada Dow-Currie’s $15,000 verdict against manager Dave Henderson for damages from a 1899 Chicago incident. A burglary conviction of Thomas Mullen in Harris Ferry, West Virginia, is also reported.
The Presbyterian General Assembly in Sanaroco New York debated home and foreign mission plans for a new mission hall in New York and heard protests over proposed seminary control. A roll call on the Smith case followed with 91 speeches, 22 in favor and 47 opposed, as Elder McDougall protested.
The Epworth League Convention held in Peoria on May 26 saw no candidate for president or first vice president reach the needed votes. CM Lacey Oates led president voting with 175, while W L Woodcock had 64. First vice president results gave W S Matthews 172 and A M Schoyer 139. second, third, and fourth vice presidents were elected along with secretary and treasurer in later ballots. resolutions condemning vice and social vice activities were approved. The next convention will meet in Philadelphia.
A mob of 300 striking miners seized a CBQ passenger train at Ladde Bureau county and forced the crew to La Salle. After a Peruvian detour, militia blocked the march. One shot fired by a Belgian. many arrested, weapons and dynamite found. Over 100 rioters guarded, several hundred remain near the county line.

Governor orders National Guard units to be ready. deputies armed as tensions rise near Camden, New Haven, and Imperial stations. Militia guard extends to Ensley and Pratt City as incidents and arrests unfold amid coal strikes and mass meetings.
Amid crowd scenes at Gravesend ten thousand fans witness a heated day of racing and baseball. Pittsburg earns a late win after Chicago and Cleveland clash, with umpire Musiio delaying the field for grounds clearance before declaring Pittsburg the victor.
