Washington March 14 The President refused to interfere with the court sentence of Crawford Goldsby known as Cherokee Bill sentenced in Arkansas to be hanged next Tuesday for murder. He stated no sufficient reason for commuting or delaying the execution and ordered the pardons clerk to notify Fort Smith officers that the judgment must be carried out.
Thomas O'Brien, an American bunco steerer, was sentenced to penal servitude for life in a French court for the March 27 killing of Kid Waddell. He claimed self defense and frenzy, while the jury cited extenuating circumstances.
William Hartenstein aged 34 of Hartenztein Bitler quarry operators was waylaid and stabbed on March 13 as he returned to his Knatertown home. An eight inch blade cut a deep wound on his left side and he is likely fatally injured. Police investigation underway at Reading Pennsylvania local quarry firm watch.

Baltimore March 14 A local committee led by Johns Hopkins University and Miss Mary Garrett resists the New York syndicate guiding the Baltimore and Ohio reorganization. J. P Morgan & Co may back the local group which controls about 49 million dollars in bonds. Samuel Spencer visited to aid forming the committee, while receivers remain in place awaiting a tested earning plan before any definite steps.
Reports from Colerain indicate a thriving oil field with Brackenwell gusher averaging thirty two barrels overnight and about twenty barrels per hour in the afternoon. Seven to ten new locations are planned east, south and southwest as the Clark No 3 well nears, and several wells are drilling or awaiting results across the field amid expanding activity and housing demand.
