David Geary of Beswood narrowly escaped death at Wheeling steel works when an elevator cage nearly crushed him as he attempted to board it from a barrow. Will Shriver rescued him as the cage shifted. In a separate near miss, a massive ingot fell and exploded near workers, but no one was killed. Hugh Worth escaped a B&N train at Bellwood after being knocked from the tracks, and William Garvey saved a man struck on the Riverside line, though injuries were substantial.
The Republican primary in Lewis County produced a solid Dovener lead with about forty delegates expected from the total fifty-one. McGregor and Robinson split county results for Commissioner and the Madison clash favored Robinson. a major convention decision instructed eight delegates to cast all county votes for Dovener at the Congressional convention amid crowded polling.

Meanwhile Miller Brothers tool works report strong orders and full-time labor as other mills cut hours and note declines in iron production.
