Battle of New Market and Cedar Creek Memoir
A veteran recounts Civil War fighting in the Shenandoah Valley era, detailing the Battle of New Market, the movement to Martinsburg and Cedar Creek, battery actions, casualties and mission shifts. He names units including Snow’s battery, Thoburn’s brigade, Siegel and other commanders, and notes hundreds killed or wounded, artillery losses, and battlefield conditions. The narrative covers marches from Winchester to Fisher’s Hall, and the collapse of lines amid heavy musket and cannon fire with improvised field actions and improvisational repairs.
