The Wheeling era ad pages boast a flurry of holiday deals and auctions from late December. Vendors like J. W. Ferrer and Stone & Thomas advertise watches, jewelry, and patterns while Bowermans offer steamship trips and discounted fares. Local merchants push assorted wares from silk gloves to Christmas fruit cakes and fancy goods for gift buyers.
A lagging opening forces Wheeling Instalment Co to push a six weeks delayed sale into a six days event. The ad promises the greatest all department sale on furniture, carpeting, stoves, crockery, and bedding with a forced purchase appeal and assurances of ample stock.
In a dramatic inventory windfall the Wheeling Instalment Co outlines a furniture burst sale. Solid ash chamber suites with beveled mirrors drop to 20.00, heavy walnut suites with marble tops at 25.00, antique maple and oak styles from 21.00, and odd dresser caps from 10.00 to 1450, all offered with instalment terms amid a flood of goods arriving.
