Virginia Prifler her husband William Fuller and M LeGrande de Capers were held on 3000 dollars bail each after arrest for conspiring to extort from Edward Whiteley in Philadelphia. Whiteley testified the men and a woman sought money claiming alienation of his wife's affections and detective fees.

Wheeling unit Wo. 1. U. A. M. entertained its members and friends last evening in the council chamber. The program included music recitations and speeches followed by luncheon. About one hundred people attended the social event.
London April 4 United States man John J Walker formerly with United Steamship Tamatave Island of Madagascar arrived after release from French prison where he served an 11 year court martial term for disobedience and mutiny. He says French guards abused him on voyage to France, describing being chained under a hatchway, spat on and exposed to rain and heat. He also recounts abuse in Tamatave including rape by soldiers, and details confinement in Marseille and Nimes before transfer to Clarevaix and pursuit of damages from the French government.
