Lightning Burns Barn Near Barnard Farm
A barn owned by Charles Barnard, two miles west of town, was struck by lightning and burned. Loss estimated between 700 and 800 dollars for the structure, plus 500 bushels of oats, 18 tons of hay, two calves, harness, and farm implements. Art Poston was in the barn. he with Mrs. Barnard helped remove horses and belongings as fire spread. The barn, built in older fashion, was a large frame structure. this marks the sixth similar barn blaze in the area within a year.
