In Willis Township farmers install a stone crusher on the road to break black person heads found along farms. About a quarter mile of road is completed using hard stone believed to outlast usual macadam. Trustee William Hunt says the project, funded by township road tax, costs about 1000 dollars per mile and is seen as a promising experiment.
A primitive wagon train from the west arrives in Westville on Tuesday afternoon. A man woman and three barefoot children travel in patched, delapidated gear with a dogma driven artist father claiming faith will provide. Local compassion meets shifting fortunes as the Gary plant announces seven point five million dollar expansions.

William L. Andrew died suddenly Saturday afternoon from heart neuralgia after a stroke a week earlier. Survived by wife and son Henry James Andrew, he was born in 1842 in Laporte and once owned extensive farmland along the Door Village road. He lived later at Harrison and Madison streets. The death shocks the community.
Mrs. Robert Wallace died at her Jackson Center home just before noon Wednesday from asthma after four years of ill health. Born in Porter county she leaves husband and many children including Mrs. Ralph Wright Glen Alta Ada Laura Floyd Wallace and Brul Stoner a son by her first husband. Funeral was held Friday at 2 pm from Jackson Center church with Rev T J Bassett. interment Carter cemetery.
John W. Brummitt of Valparaiso returned from Crawfordsville where he pursued a $20,000 suit for damages against the American Realty Co and Howard Hyatt. After Hyatt’s testimony and a threatened withdrawal, Brummitt was awarded $6,500 in damages for an 1080 acre Washington county land trade later found misvalued by stock.
Harry Warnke comes home from Iowa where he was employed last summer.
