Muck Lands and How to Make Them Pay

Muck lands in several states cover large areas and can produce high yields with proper drainage and fertilizer. Key steps include deep drainage to below 42 inches, control of water flow from adjacent lands, and establishing ditches. post-drainage, crops like corn and onions respond to potash and phosphoric acid, with potash applications of 100–250 pounds per acre common, higher under low water tables, and onions needing added nitrogen. Trials on muck show significant yield gains from balanced, soluble nutrients, with practical notes from Tippecanoe and Nappanee experiments.
