Bright March weather marked inauguration day as Warren G. Harding took the oath and delivered a brief address. The ceremony was short with a businesslike tone, drawing crowds along Pennsylvania Avenue and at the Capitol.
Washington March 4 The oath of office of President was administered today by Chief Justice Edward Douglass White It was delivered as Warren G Harding pledged to faithfully execute the office and defend the Constitution of the United States to the best of his ability.
Washington report notes May Broadhead Wallace wife of the new Secretary of Agriculture, excited about the honor and sad to leave Des Moines. She is known for hospitality, praised for cooking, Phi Beta Phi member, Ames College graduate who met her husband at Ames before their 1867 Thanksgiving wedding.
