Old Indian Record Records Land Transfer to Government
A 1835 deed by the Pottawattamie Indians to the government is recorded in La Porte for Michigan township land titling. The tract covers about 635 12 acres, most of section 31 along Michigan street, with historic nearby properties named. The land later passed from government to Indiana state, plus a 100 foot wide strip from Lake Michigan to the Wabash River for the old Michigan road.
