Dozing engineer in circus wreck inquest at Hammond
The Hagenbeck Wallace circus train wreck in Gary Indiana left Engineer Alonzo Sargent jailed in Hammond after the inquest adjourned for more witnesses. Conductor Lewis Johnson testified Sargent said he must have been dozing, while fireman Gustave Klaus was detained on the coroner’s order. Three more victims were identified, including Mary Roderick and Jeannette Roderick Barnett, linked to the McChu Sisters.
