Opinion on Taxation of Bank Capital Stock Valuation

Attorney General Honan issues guidance to the State Board of Tax Commissioners on valuing bank capital stock for taxation. The board should first assess total property reported as capital stock surplus fund or undivided profits, then deduct to find real estate value and remaining stock value. If banks own but do not report real estate as capital stock, only reportable capital items are taxed, with real estate assessed separately.

Formaldehyde in Milk Found in Terre Haute Sample

Indiana state food and drug commissioner R E Barnard reports a Terre Haute milk sample contained formaldehyde, the first such preservative found in seven years. Muncie Firms Fight 544 Cents Per Ton Tariff In Federal Hearing

In a federal court session, Ball Bros and the Gill Clay Pot Co of Muncie faced Muncie and Western railroad and the C and C railroad of Indiana. Represented by attorneys, the case was continued by W J Woods an Interstate Commerce Commission examiner. The firms protest a tariff of 544 cents per ton with a two dollar minimum per car for switching charges at their Munice plants. The tariff is suspended pending ICC ruling. Woods formerly chaired the Interstate Commerce Commission in 1940 and testified in related cases.
