The Democratic state convention renominated John P. Altgeld for governor by acclamation amid strong display of support. He declined the post citing ill health and finances, but party pressure prevailed as he was urged to lead the ticket with free silver and labor support. The platform backed free coinage, tariff for revenue, anti injunctions, and an income tax, with nominations for statewide offices and a unit vote instruction for Chicago delegates.
At 4:10 pm Altgeld delivered the keynote address as the convention pressed to nominate its ticket and endorse Free Silver. The crowd roared approval as he declared he could not campaign further while two thirds demanded he lead the state ticket. Altgeld was named governor with McConnell as a running mate and other nominations announced for judges and clerks in Illinois and the Fourth district appellate court.
The governor lauded the Democratic convention and predicted a fall win for the party. He said the state is solidly united, untainted by bad records, and ready for victory, with his wife by his side and a packed room of supporters. Shively named for governor by acclamation at Indianapolis gathering.

BuryaLo June 25 The International League of Press Clubs opened at the Iroquois hotel in this city yesterday. There are over 100 delegates in attendance.
District meetings nominated delegates to the national convention with no contests except in the Seventh district where two slates were chosen. The credentials committee will decide seating for Chicago with a likely 12 to 1 for silver. W E English and Charles M Cooper named for Chicago among silver supporters. one gold supporter may side with Matthews.
Ex President and Mrs Harrison narrowly escaped being crushed between an electric car and a trolley pole on East Washington Street. Their carriage, driven by a colored coachman, avoided both the pole and the car as the horses panicked. Also noted are diverse items including obituaries and financial market notes from the period.
A driver prepared to assist with the horses as Mrs Harrison appeared unaware of the danger she faced, showing little concern or recognition of risk.

Harrison Green, a Black man sought in Owensboro Kentucky for murder, was captured in Terre Haute after a May quarrel with Sid Montgomery over Montgomery’s wife left Green fatally stabbing him. Green fled abroad before returning to the United States.
Monday night in Terre Haute all saloons closed at 11 pm and crowds dispersed as Prosecutor Huston prepared to enforce the law following the Nicholson decision. This marked a rare moment of widespread compliance in the city.
Jeffersonville June 24 Charles Walton who was sentenced to ten years for murder at Shellyville told prison chaplain Woot six months ago that he would die in June. Though healthy at the time the warning was not understood, he died Monday as he predicted in the jail south after his sentence.
H. T. Mc Dermott, a well known farmer, was bitten on the upper lip by a poisonous spider while asleep under a shade tree near St. Croix on June 24. His face and head have swollen, and he is reported in a serious condition.
