An old advertisement urges readers to ask grocers for Grain-O as a new drink that can replace coffee for all ages. It claims Grain-O is rich and pure, made from grains, and designed to avoid the harsh effects of coffee with a price of 15 cents per package.
Mrs. Timm and two sons Arthur and Clarence attended the county picnic Saturday at Laporte. Father Wreble visited with Mr. Bolka and family Monday. Father Bolka escorted him to the City Monday night. John Schlean returned to the City to work after helping his father on the farm. Mrs. Rachel Booth and grandson James Dysard Jr visited with James Dysard Sr and family Saturday. Dick Booth has returned from Cuba and visited his uncle Martin Booth and aunt Mrs. C R Selkirk Saturday evening. James Dewolf called on Mr Stalemaker and family Sunday. Mrs. James Dysard Jr visited with her uncle Martin Booth and family Friday.
Ada E. Hart recalls a severe lung illness that progressed from a bad cold to consumption after doctors gave up. Charlie Payne improved after neuralgia. Lem Ames of Summit attended quarterly meeting at Door Village with Presiding Elder Dale.
A light shower occurred last Sunday evening. Deputy Sheriff Katchur of Laporte was here on Monday. Mrs Otto Kass visited her mother over Sunday. Crops look good. Many attended the Wanatah Christian church exercises with a fine program and strong speeches by older students. Tommy and Cecil Bailey received fine watches for completing the tenth grade.
The Indiana Supreme Court ruling merges city and school debts, reversing prior practice. It holds the school debt within the 2 percent limit, invalidating bonds for Columbia school and the Third Ward school building and threatening repayment on these bonds.
The Valparaiso vicinity endured its heaviest rain and hail storm last evening around 6:30 as hail for over fifteen minutes shattered glass and damaged crops. Numerous reports detail killed livestock, broken lights, destroyed barns, and extensive crop losses across townships north, west, and south of the city.

The damage case of A. D. Campbell v. August N. Johnson was dismissed on motion of plaintiff. In Michigan City v. Clark et al., one Clark was fined five dollars and the action against others was dismissed on their agreeing to pay costs. The Mulaney murder case postponed to Monday June 26. Von Platen et al. v. Richter et al. sent to St. Joseph circuit court on change of venue. Spalding Machine Screw Co v. Allen Manufacturing Co continued for possession. Ingram v. McCormick et al. possession case, venue moved to St. Joseph county with C. H. Trusdell as special judge. Hannah Austin v. Henry Austin et al. to reform deed, venue moved to St. Joseph county circuit court.
