Indiana Bank Report Shows Growth In Resources And Deposits

The Indiana controller published a bank statements comparison for 1910 and 1911. Total resources rose from 226,253,329.74 to 233,884,364.74, deposits increased from 132,031,660.96 to 136,350,161.24, and loans rose from 126,553,497.02 to 128,041,613.95. Individual deposits in Indianapolis edged up from 22,686,306.05 to 22,810,062.36, indicating prosperity beyond the capital. Frigid Weather Hampers Chicago Transit Fire Rescue

A massive blaze at the Transit House in Chicago's Stockyard district killed one and injured seven, with about a score of people rendered unconscious. Nearly 200 residents and guests were endangered as fire engulfed the building at West Forty first and South Halsted, threatening adjacent structures including the Stock Yards Savings Bank and Live Stock World building. The fire started in the bake shop provision room and spread rapidly as women and guests fled, while firefighters, police, and citizens conducted dramatic rescues.

Evans R D Evans laid to rest with naval honors

The funeral of Robley D. Evans retired rear admiral was held in Washington with full naval honors. President Taft, statesmen, officers, and diplomats attended the All Souls church service and Arlington National Cemetery ceremony. Honorary pallbearers included Rear Admirals Brownson Schroeder Stockton Pillsbury Nicholson and generals Sanger McCook. A brigade of Annapolis midshipmen attended.
