Havana Feb 23. The court of inquiry into the Maine explosion met at 10:30 am and recessed at 12:30. Lt G F W Holman navigator and ordnance officer testified. In the afternoon Lt Cdr R Wainwright executive officer presided. divers work in darkness with limited lights from the Mangrove. Bodies and salvage efforts continue amid unknown obstacles and heavy critique of misinformation.

Photographs Spur Expert Doubt on Maine Explosion Cause

Philadelphia February 23 Photographs of the wrecked battleship Maine were shown to Charles H. Cramp for expert opinion. He said the pictures suggest two or more explosions and that the wreck below the water may be worse than above. He urged cofferdams for salvage and called raising the hull with pontoon boats impracticable.

First New York Ammunition Arrives for Navy Yard

The Brooklyn navy yard received about 2000 projectiles from Carpenter Steel works for six eight and ten inch guns. Torpedo heads from New England makers are due today. The ordnance officer said the munition collection does not imply imminent war and that supplies were ordered seven months ago.

Indiana Populists nominate ticket and anti fusion platform

The Indiana Populist state convention in Indianapolis elected a state ticket and three national committeemen. They adopted a platform opposing fusion by injunction and endorsing free silver at 16 to 1, female suffrage, prohibition, and bank money controls. The national committee members chosen were W. S. Austin Joshua Strange and A. G. Burkhardt. The state ticket includes Dr. H. H. Morrison for secretary of state W. H. H. Parks for auditor Frank M. Brown for treasurer Robert W.
