In Peru a Bengal tiger and a young leopard fought for about 30 minutes in a circus rehearsal arena. The leopard survived after clawing the tiger, valued at $1,000, and 30 witnesses could not separate them. The trainer attempted the rehearsal despite the danger.
E. J. Starke aged 76 once owned 22 000 acres of rich land in Bean Blossom township died at the county poor farm. J. S. Van Buskirk of Gosport volunteered to pay funeral expenses saving the body from medical dissection at Indiana university. Four daughters listed: Mrs Saunder Indianapolis Mrs Henn Mooresville Mrs McPherridge in this county and a Franklin daughter unnamed here.
In Bloomington Mary Ham, 15, daughter of Sherman Ham, was fatally burned when her dress ignited from a red hot gram stove on the Ellettsville pike two miles north of town. Her hair burned away her eyes were damaged and her body roasted as flames consumed her clothes and skin.
Floyd county will this year have its first free pike with a contract for an eight mile road in Georgetown township at a cost of $17 972 awarded to W O Sweeney of Jeffersonville. Floyd county has lagged in pike construction while other townships push the issue and two of the state’s three toll roads terminate here.
Mrs Ella Collup seeks divorce from her husband after moving from the Omega area to Atroma. The home burned despite bloodhounds being brought from Noblesville. the fire was suspected to be incendiary with coal oil used. Members of the Horse Thief Detective association investigated the case.
State board of medical registration pursues action against two physicians in Muncie linked to a so called Boy Wonder combination. The group operated with a licensed physician and claimed to make cures but has since left Muncie.
Edward Ritz fourteen years old from Evansville walked fifteen miles in snow to escape study at Jasper college. He was captured by Probation Officer Joe H Kraft who said Ritz would return to school if he could raise the railroad fare to Jasper.
Ed Rosenbaum a clothing merchant closed his store in Wabash after assigning assets at about 9000 to the Wabash County Loan and Trust Company. Liabilities total around 45000. His wife and two brothers in law Abraham Myers and Jacob Myers of Kokomo are his listed creditors with claims near 31000.
The arrest of Arthur Stinasse, a glass worker, at Mt Vernon Ohio on a wife desertion charge uncovers a Cruelty tale. His young wife now living with her mother in Hartford says he married her at 16, abused her and used drugs to keep her compliant, declaring her insane and placing her in an asylum.
The Indiana general assembly restricts high school secret societies and the Beta Phi Sigma chapter in Rensselaer appeals through attorney James A. Ross. Rev. W. H. Daniel a prominent Indiana Methodist minister died at his Decatur home after a four year illness. Born near Richmond on April 10 1848 he was nearly 60. An 1867 Fort Wayne College graduate he served in many Northern Indiana churches including Peru Goshen Kokomo Logansport Richmond Decatur Auburn Columbia City Fremont Leo Coesse Waterloo.
Phillip Cox and his son Jacob clashed at their home near South Whitely turning fatal when Jacob died from head injuries after blows from his father at Longcliffe asylum. The elder Cox later killed himself following the quarrel and his son's death.
The Hoosier State Poultry Association organized in New Albany with plans for its first annual exhibition in January. Officers named include James Mc Laughlin as president Henry Hanky as vice-president Fred Brazil as secretary W. A. Green as corresponding secretary and Lewis A. Stoy as treasurer.

They burned Alfred Cardins tobacco factory at View destroying 35000 pounds of leaf and barn storing 10000 pounds. Losss estimated at 10000 with 5000 insurance. Cardin a 75 year old Buckner Dunkerson buyer and former Populist governor candidate was away.
London Sir Birrell Barnes presiding at the divorce court granted the countess of Yarmouth nee Miss Alice Thaw of Pittsburgh a decree nullifying her marriage to the Earl of Yarmouth. The case lasted about thirty minutes with the earl absent and no settlement talks discussed.

Cahokia supervisor office dates to 1722 under Louis XIV era.
Murphysboro court sentenced W. B. Smith and James S. Nall to up to five years in the penitentiary for conspiracy to defraud Elkville State Bank of 5192. Nall, president of Mississippi Valley Banking in Grand Tower, helped found Elkville bank with overdrafts and false drafts. Smith, once head of a major Louisville bank, also fined 2000 dollars.
In Jackson Kentucky the funeral for Judge James Hargis, killed by his son Beech Hargis, was held at a family graveyard overlooking the North Fork of the Kentucky River. Beech was allowed to view the body, then returned to Breathitt County Jail as the procession began.
