Reform bill bans diplomats from serving alcohol abroad

Senator Wesley L. Jones of Washington drafts a measure to bar all American citizens abroad and diplomatic staff from serving liquors at public or official functions. It would forbid recognition of clubs serving beverages and enforce the rule with severe penalties, including six months to six years in prison on second offenses. Ambassadors could be barred from social gatherings and even a glass handed to a visitor at a diplomat’s home.

Senate baths to reopen in revamped official facility

The RAEC O Roman baths in the Senate office building are being cleared of cobwebs and readied for use by members. Long criticized as extravagant they will be funded mainly by user fees with a special committee handling assessments. The updated baths will offer steam rooms showers massage electrical cabinet and a swimming plunge with a lighter design than originally planned.
