Joyous Christmas Program at M. E. Church

The M. E. Sunday school held a Christmas program Saturday night with two gift laden trees and a large bell. Supt. Campbell spoke inviting all to join the Sunday school as children performed recitations songs and exercises under various teachers and classes.

Will Try to Quash Charge in Sherrick Case

Indianapolis December 22 attorneys for former Auditor David Sherrick said they will seek to have the state make the embezzlement charges more specific when the case is heard tomorrow in criminal court. A strong effort will be made to quash the charge the state seeks to prove.

Victory for Runyan & Co in road case supreme court ruling

Attorneys J. F. Gallaher C. R. and J. B. Collins representing the Taxpayers Association receive the supreme court opinion reversing the lower court. The decision ends the suit with no retrial and allows Bunyan & Co to finish the macadam road and claim 21000 in county funds. Taxpayers may still sue after completion to potentially reduce final payment.

Hammond Saloonkeepers vote to stay open Sunday as a test, risking arrest and fines. If penalized, they plan a movement to close the town and prosecute news dealers, restaurants, hotels, candy stores, drug stores, and small grocers that operate on Sunday. Pretty wedding at Small home in Mishawaka area

Call for 10th District Republican Convention

The Tenth Congressional District Republicans meet as a delegate convention in Reneselaer Indiana on January 16 1906 at 11 a m to elect a member of the State Central Committee. Delegates from Benton Jasper Lake LaPorte Newton Porter Tippecanoe Warren and White counties are apportioned by county. Statewide 1905 school enrollment and funding totals

State Superintendent Fasset A Cotton reports 1905 state enrollment 768,672 with 550,121 students in white and colored males and females. County common school funds total 88,168.74. township funds 2,468,143.63, grand total 310,636,226.37. Consolidation shows 657 schools abandoned, 250 consolidated, 7,796 children transported by wagon at 878585 per day, with 40 of 46 counties voting affirmative and 6 negative.

Laporte Council approves ten year street light contract

The Laporte common council agreed to a ten year contract with Laporte Light and Power for 125 street lights to burn all night at 73 dollars per light annually. State Grange honored Laporte county and L S Fitch of Oakwood at Seymour meeting, reappointing Fitch as chairman of the executive committee. Chas Wornburff of Liberty township Porter county dies of cancer at 66, survived by wife and five children. Funeral Sunday at 2 p.m. in Chesterton.

Mrs A E Green Dies of Pneumonia in Chesterton

Mrs A E Green died Thursday of pneumonia at her Chesterton home. Her husband, secretary and treasurer of Western Launch & Engine works in Michigan City, and a ten year old son survive. The family planned to move to Michigan City to reside.

Tragic Diphtheria Death Strikes Michigan City Family

A two year old son of John Bile died Wednesday of last week in Michigan City from diphtheria. No physician had attended the child until death revealed the illness, and another child in the family was found to be suffering from the same disease.

Death in Michigan City Mrs Elizabeth Kliesinger

Mrs Elizabeth Kliesinger died Christmas day at St. Anthony's hospital in Michigan City aged 81. A German born widow who lived in Wearville forty years with her deceased husband, she left four children, only John surviving and residing with her. She fell weeks earlier breaking her right hip and did not recover. Funeral services were held yesterday at 10 a.m. at the Methodist church led by Rev Ballard with burial in the cemetery near town.

Two Michigan City Women Die on Christmas Night

Two Michigan City residents died on Christmas night after a day of hosting a party. Mrs. Wm Jhrk died from apoplexy, aged 55, leaving a husband and six adult children. Mrs. Sophia Dunker, aged over 50, died after a long stomach tumor affliction, survived by two sons, her husband, and three children.

Miss Sarah Cornelia Frazer died at 5 p m December 20 in Holy Family hospital Laporte after a week of treatment. Born September 10 1847 in Scipio township she lived in Laporte many years. Survived by brother Joseph Frazer of Laporte and sister Mrs B R Bogg of Oklahoma.

Woodmansee Dies at 74 in Galena Township

John L. Woodmansee aged 74 died December 19 at his Galena township home. He is survived by his wife and four children who preceded him in death. The couple had been honored Galena township citizens since 1852.
