A Washington Township note highlights residents complaining about a grip like issue. Mrs John Boyer of South Chicago visits relatives here. A local young man who breaks engagements is called a beau of promise. Mentions Christmas tree at Pleasant View next Saturday night.
Tom Cole's family spent a few days with P. Williams and moved to Blue Island Illinois. Mrs. Goodrich from Michigan arrived to spend weeks with friends and Mr. Goodrich plans to join them at Christmas. Milk family settled on Geist farm while Mrs. Geist remains in poor health. H. Martin works hard clearing timber and sawing lumber. Mr. and Mrs. Zee of Valparaiso visit their son John and help with gathering corn.
H J Fitzpatrick marked his fortieth birthday with a neighborly social Thursday. The M E Sabbath school plans a Christmas Eve program for children awaiting Santa Claus. Jerry Berger remains gravely ill after summer illness. Etta Livingstone visited relatives Mr and Mrs John Baxter in Stillwell. Mrs Alonzo Smith was laid to rest beside her husband in Door Village cemetery after funeral in Hanna.
Frank Tilden and Adolph Seigesmund appear in town with family and a new buggy. Visits from Mr and Mrs Robert Marks and daughter at W S Tilden's. Ozcar Gillham seen on Sunday. C Williams & Co sawed wood for John Redinbaugh. Andrew Shorte recovering from illness. Joe Gilham and Ed Williams made a business call at Laporte. Nat Osborn of Wanatah to work for Marks. South Morgan school to host Christmas tree and exercises next Friday. The Cat is still here. A wedding is 2000 expected. Clarence Cramer headed to Chicago. Marks blood hound away on thief trail.
Sam Schloaser of South Chicago appeared on the streets Monday and Tuesday. Miss Barber and Lulu Spahr hosted by Mrs J Jourdan. Sunday School youths staged an entertainment Saturday night proceeds to buy song books. Mrs A D Anderson visiting mother Mrs Thomas Boyd. D M Barber and daughter Gertrude visiting friends in Walkerton last week.
The Friday night social at the schoolhouse raised $15.30 and drew strong pupil participation. Miss Anna Sacher visited Valparaiso last week, and a Christmas tree event is planned for Friday. A lantern was misplaced at the gathering and calls go out for its return.
election of officers for our Sunday School resulted in Miss Ida Frame as Supt Mrs Chas Goodwin as Asst Supt Miss Polly Sackman as Sec and Mrs G W Norton as Treas. Several attended a party at Lester Hollar's Otis Saturday. Bertha Eggleston has recovered enough to spend Christmas in Jackson Center.

Workmen on North Michigan street sewer north of Navarre street discover a buried marsh bed 11 feet deep containing logs and axes. Above the marsh, sand and gravel layers extend to the surface, indicating natural accumulation since early civilization. Youth's Companion ads promise weekly fiction and travel pieces with a 1899 calendar giveaway for subscribers.
